The best ways to learn Facebook ads

Now is a great time to implement a new Facebook Ads strategy in your online business. With a global focus on physical distancing, and many traditional Facebook advertisers struggling to stay in business, not only is Facebook (and Instagram) usage up, but ad costs have decreased dramatically.

So, if you're thinking about jumping in and taking action on Facebook ads, then what's the best way of going about it?

Well, that all depends on how much time and money you have to invest in learning and implementing the technical know-how and strategies behind successful ads.

Find a Facebook Ads course that suits your requirements

At the cheapest and most time-intensive end of the scale, you can teach yourself through trial-and-error using free blog posts, YouTube videos and training webinars. Or by working through the dozens of free videos and related materials provided by Facebook itself.

Guide to the best ways to learn Facebook adsBut what if you wanted all the information pulled together in one place and to be taken step-by-step through the process? Well that is where online courses come in.

The price of these varies massively, often due to how much interaction you get with the person who put the course together. Two that are worth considering are as follows:

Andrea Palten has created a Facebook Ads Mastery course that is ideal for any online entrepreneur who wants to learn how to get leads faster and make sales via advertising on social media. Her goal is to simplify Facebook ads so that you know exactly what it takes to create high-converting ads.

This video-based course takes one month and is broken down into eight modules. You can take it whenever you're ready as a self-study version (costing $197) or purchase the course with live training, five weeks of office hours calls to go over your work, and a private community group for $497. The next course starts on 1 July.

An alternative is Absolute Facebook Ads by Claire Pelletreau. This course provides a simple, step-by-step approach to launch your profitable ad campaign, from strategy to testing (and everything in between). It consists of 12 modules of video explanations, text and screenshots that you can work through as quickly or as slowly as you want.

This course is more expensive at $1,497 but Claire has been running it since 2014 and is focused on making it as simple, comprehensive and up-to-date as possible. As well as lifetime access to the course itself, you also get ongoing feedback and support inside a members-only Facebook group along with monthly strategy calls to get all your questions answered. Absolute Facebook Ads also has a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Use a Facebook Ads Manager to do it for you

Not so much a way of learning Facebook ads, but rather of outsourcing the whole process so that you don't have to think about it!

As with courses, there is a fantastic range of Facebook and Instagram ads experts out there who will happily run all your advertising for you. Which you choose will depend on where you're at in your business and how much you have to invest in both the management of the ads and in the ads themselves.

Marketing with Delight offers two done-for-you options for Facebook Ads Management. In both, she will create a strategy to help you reach your goals while staying within your budget. She also sets up and targets all of your ads, installs the Facebook tracking pixel, and collaborates with you to create the most effective text and images.

For the 'Rising Star' - a beginner who wants to set up one really good ad to grow their email list - her management fee is $500/month for three months, plus an ad budget of $500/month.

For the 'Supernova' - experienced advertisers who want to run multiple ad campaigns, launches and sophisticated retargeting - the fee is $1,250/month for three months (or $2k/launch), plus an ad spend of $1-$10k/month.

Courtney Tarrant offers Facebook & Instagram Ads - Done For You for those who are already achieving consistent five-figure months, and are looking to move from a six to seven-figure business. Her high-end agency service includes copywriting, graphic design, video creation, ads optimization and anything else you might need, so that you can focus on your zone of genius.

Their clients tend to be ecommerce business owners, coaches and consultants selling online programs. Packages vary by client, but are based on a retainer fee in the $1k-$5k/month range.

Jennifer Spivak is also focused on those who are already making mid six-figures. Her all-female, high vibe ad squad has managed over $3M is advertising spend and has generated their clients over $16M in revenue.

They offer VIP Facebook Ads Management - Done For You focused on advertising that resonates with you as much as your clients, and are on a mission to change the world one Facebook ad at a time! Their services start at $5k/month management fee plus a minimum of $2k/month in ad spend.

Opt for a Done-With-You Service to get the best of both worlds

As you'll have seen, the options above range from free / a few hundred dollars to figure it out for yourself, to tens of thousands of dollars to get it all done for you.

But what if there was a middle way? More recently, there is a growing trend for done-with-you rather than done-for-you services - the option of working alongside a Facebook ads manager who uses their expertise to coach you so that you learn as you go.

Marketing with Delight also offers a Facebook Ads Coaching service over a 6-8 week period to coincide with your next launch. Her goal is to coach your through creating a strategy that makes the most out of your ad spend and helps you to reach your goals.

She starts with a budget and strategy session, and follows this up with a three-hour intensive to get your ads set up, including tips on copy, images and headlines. This is followed by four follow-up calls to check ad reports and optimise the campaign. The cost for this service is $797.

Similarly, Digital Marketing Engine runs Campaign Kickstarter to fill the gap between trying to do everything yourself and having an agency on a full-time retainer. They work with owner-managed businesses and coaches to put the processes in place that allow you to manage your lead generation campaigns with minimum effort and zero tech-speak!

Their process involves four 1-2-1 calls over a period of four weeks to provide you with a professional ad set up. The cost is $1,500 and includes both the ad spend and their daily oversight of the account.
